And thus was Hobart #4 created… He introduced me to Laird Hunt and J Robert Lennon and Ray Vukcevich. The issue opens and closes with pieces by Aimee Bender that were inspired by a painting by Marcel Dzama featured on the cover. There’s one of (I think?) Tao Lin’s first stories in print. There’s Stephen Elliott and Robert Lopez and Rick Moody…
I wrote a little appreciation of Ryan Boudinot that turned into a kind of history of Hobart/online lit journals and personal reflection, or something.

Up until Valentines Day, we were giving away Fast Machine to subscribers. Because its Friday night and I’m just hanging out, eating and drinking, reading Tumblr and posting on facebook, I want to give away a couple more books…
Brian Allen Carr has a kickass story in this issue that is going to be in his upcoming collection, VAMPIRE CONDITIONS. The first sentence of his story is, “White folks never dedicate their cars to loved ones.” Tell me you don’t want to read the rest of that. Go ahead and just try.
So… in case you, too, are just hanging out in front of your computer, and looking for an excuse to throw us a few dollars… to the next two subscribers, I’ll buy you a copy of any Dark Sky (where Brian is an editor) book you want. I’ll either have it sent directly to you, or I’ll have it sent here and sign it myself, either as the author or as Brian. Your call. How’s that sound?
both subscriptions/free books were taken. That was fun though. I’ll offer up some more freebies later this weekend, I bet.

as much as we love finding beautiful pictures of Tasmania and info on mixers via the tumblr search tag for “Hobart,” this is pretty cool, too:
Just found out that Hobart, one of my favorite lit mags ever, accepted a short story of mine.
Dancing, squealing and singing ensued. YEAH!

I just added a super, awesome, ultimate, many-other-hyperbolic-adjectives HOBART package to the Southern Summer Comfort Tour Kickstarter page. It’s basically everything Hobart-related we’ve ever made that we still have more than one of (i.e. I wasn’t smart enough to keep more than a single copy of a few of these issues and I’m not giving away my very last copy). It’s kinda expensive because it’s a) a ton of stuff, and b) literally our third- and second-to-last copies of some of this stuff. It includes:
I like this sentence. “We saw some pretty awesome beaches.”
